  • Alan Gray.

Alan is Norfolk born and bred. By the age of six he had three gardens - one at home and one with each grandparent.

In the ensuing years nothing has changed - gardening is and remains his love, his life and his greatest pleasure. And his garden - East Ruston Old Vicarage - is testament to his passion for plants.

He believes that everyone should be able to garden, however small their plot. And loves to pass on tips, tricks and valuable knowledge that he has accumulated from an occupation that soothes the soul and nourishes the body.

  • Thordis Fridriksson.

Thordis came to gardening in her twenties, though she’d spent her childhood observing her Mother take numerous cuttings and garden on a very tight budget.

Her eventual epiphany came after she started working with Alan Gray on the radio. Initially answering phones for his gardening programme, she came to love the plants he talked about. Eventually she presented the programme alongside him for eight years, during which time they also started the Get Gardening YouTube channel.

Thordis currently gardens a small suburban plot in Cambridgeshire. Her style is informal and eclectic. She has yet to meet a plant she doesn’t want to love.

East Ruston Old Vicarage.

We may be biased, but East Ruston Old Vicarage is one of the best gardens you’ll ever visit. Bursting with unusual plants and inspiring combinations, a walk around its thirty-two acres, will leave you refreshed and bursting to try new things in your own plot. We’ve been lucky enough to capture some of the splendour of the gardens in our YouTube videos.
